Several years after Tally Youngblood stopped the ulgies, pretties, specials society, no strict rules or ways of life were produced. Cliques such as “Tech-heads,” who show off their newest gadgets, “surge-monkeys,” who are hooked on extreme plastic surgery, and “kickers,” who spread the gossip and trends, rise up. All of what they do is monitored and watched on millions of camera. In their world, whoever is the most known about is the most popular.

Aya Fuse, at fifteen, has a face rank of 451,369. She is a total nobody, an extra. Her only chance to become popular and have a higher face rank, she has to kick a really huge story. Aya meets a clique of girls who perform crazy stunts, but are extremely secretive. The sly girls are hiding something bigger, an explosive discovery. If Aya kicks this story, she will propelled up into fame, celebrity, and popularity. She doesn’t know she is in tremendous danger from a world she is not prepared for.

Extras is a marvelous book about the futuristic world. I enjoyed reading this novel. This is the fourth of the Uglies series. Uglies is the first, Pretties is the second, and Specials is the third. This science fiction book jumped from each page to the next. This was exciting and energetic. Scott Westerfeld has created a fun book. I would recommend this novel to anyone who has a love for the scientific future and exhilaration.

I liked this book a lot, but to me it wasn't as good as Uglies, Pretties, and Specials. Changing the main characters and point of view just didn't make the book as much of a quick read as the others were. But in another sense, I guess including the different culture and 'face rank's did make it pretty interesting.

I agree that Extras was a very good book. The images that come to mind with the discriptions give by Westerfeild paint a very vivid picture of what his futuristic world looks like.
